Haapsalu

Today we passed the border between Latvia and Estonia.
We visited the beautyful town Haapsalu on the westcoast of Estonia. A special museum shows the work of the illustrator Ilon Wikland who illustrated most of Astrid Lindgrens books.

She was Estonian and spent part of her childhood in Haapsalu in this house.
There is also a huge ruin of a castle.
Legend says there is a white lady spooking around. She was the lover of one of the priests. When the relation was discovered the girl was enclosed in the castle wall which was built at that time. She appears in a window of the church only in some nights end of august.

Haapsalu is very well known for its traditional knitted lacework especially shawls. There is a small museum with shop in the mainstreet.
